Local Dental Committee Annual Conference 2016

Local Dental Committee Annual Conference 2016

On behalf of the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Local Dental Committee, both Andrew and Melissa attended the national conference held in Manchester on the 9th and 10th of June.

Andrew put forwards three motions to the conference, which were all passed:

  1. This Conference demands that the BDA and the GDPC put pressure on the DoH to analyse, influence and develop a new contract for dentists that is nourishing for dentists of all ages not just for patients, and to reduce the undue stress and pressure placed upon the profession under the UDA system
  2. This Conference demands that NHS England funding and workforce in the sub regions is increased to a more realistic and manageable level similar to that pre 2013.
  3. Conference demands that the DoH and the GDPC address the major flaws within the recently published commissioning guides including lack of consultant and specialist availability together with under-funded services, and seek a solution immediately.

There was also an annual LDC conference dinner on the Thursday evening where they met up with fellow colleagues and friends and a sweepstake held to guess the length of time the conference chair would take to give his speech. This was guessed to within a second by Andrew and Melissa and they donated their winning total of over £1900 to the BDA benevolent fund.
